India spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is currently serving Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, but he is also in the headlines for his separation from his estranged wife Dhanashree Verma. Recently, the Bandra Family Court granted divorce to the couple after a joint petition filed by both with a mutual consent. Both Chahal and Dhanashree have kept mum about their divorce, but recently, a senior journalist Vickey Lalwani divulged the reason behind their separation.

On his Instagram post, Lalwani cited a source close to the couple and wrote that both Chahal and Dhanashree “never truly got along” due to their different personalities. He also added that Dhanashree asked Chahal to relocate to Mumbai, but the cricketer refused to do so as he was averse to move away from his parents. “After tying the knot, Yuzi and Dhanashree had shifted to stay with Yuzi’s parents in Haryana and came to Mumbai only when they needed to. Yes, this Mumbai-Haryana jhagda was one of the main reasons why this much-in-the-paparazzi-world marriage ended. Yuzi was clear that he wouldn’t uproot himself from his parents’ home and surroundings,” wrote Lalwani on his Instagram post.

Yuzvendra Chahal made his debut for PBKS in IPL last night

Yuzvendra Chahal was seen donning a PBKS jersey during the IPL 2025 game between his new side and Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium on March 25. Punjab won the game by 11 runs and their captain Shreyas Iyer became the player of the match (POTM) for his stunning knock of 97* off 42.

Chahal failed to make any major contribution to the victory as he went for 34 runs, and also failed to bag any wicket in his three-over spell. In the IPL 2025 auction, the 34-year-old emerged as the costliest spinner after pulling off a lucrative contract worth INR 18 crore.
