Newcastle United are reportedly considering a move to bring in free agent David de Gea after goal-keeper Nick Pope suffered a shoulder injury during their 1-0 home win against Manchester United in the Premier League. As the Newcastle man potentially faces a lengthy layoff in front of him, pending his scan results, the Magpies are looking to bolster their goal-keeping options.

According to the report from the Daily Mail, Nick Pope, who joined Newcastle in the summer of 2022, might not play for around four months with an operation on his shoulder the likely course of action as far as the treatment for his injury goes. Notably, the English goalkeeper suffered a dislocated shoulder problem in the summer of 2018 during his days at Burnley, which saw him miss more than five months of regular season football before returning in January 2019.
The injury for Nick Pope happened late in the second half when he made a goal-bound stop but landed awkwardly shoulder-first on the ground before calling for medical attention from the Newcastle dugout.
