The 19th fixture of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 had the Netherlands locking horns with Sri Lanka on October 21, Saturday at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. The Netherlands were coming off a win over South Africa, while Sri Lanka, with no wins in the tournament, thus far were sitting at the bottom of the standin gs. The Netherlands skipper Scott Edwards won the toss and elected to bat first.

After finally being able to win their first match against South Africa in the tournament, the Dutchmen were looking forward to continuing their winning momentum. However, the rival bowlers seemed to be in a controlling position right from the beginning and destroyed the batting department with their lethal bowling.

It wasn't until Sybrand Engelbrecht's 70 off 82 and Logan van Beek's 59 off 75 that the team got some stability and collectively posted a target of 263 for their counterparts. After bundling out their rivals at 262, Kusal Mendis and his men looked confident enough to successfully chase the target.

Sri Lanka batters in the names of Pathum Nissanka, Sadeera Samarawickrama, and Charith Asalanka played decent innings to get the team their first victory of the season.  Samarawickrama's unbeaten 91 helped the team record a five-wicket win against the Netherlands.
