Australia went on to register a famous win against India by 146 runs in Perth’s new stadium on December 18, 2018. The new stadium in Perth was set to host its first-ever Test match replacing the old WACA (Western Australian Cricket Association) Stadium. At that time, Australia were hosting India for a four-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy down under. Having lost the first Test by 31 runs in Adelaide, Australia were now focused on making a comeback with a series-levelling win in Perth.
Batting first, Australia posted 326 runs in the first innings with Marcus Harris top scoring with 70(141) runs, along with Travis Head’s 58-run knock. Fast bowler Ishant Sharma was the most successful bowler from the Indian side registering figures of 4/41, while Jasprit Bumrah, Umesh Yadav and Hanuma Vihari scalped two wickets each.

In reply to Australia’s total of 326, India had a poor start with the bat as the visitors lost two wickets for just eight runs. After that, skipper Virat Kohli took charge of the Indian innings with the bat. Kohli led from the front and scored one of the most hundreds of his career. The right-hander scored 123(257) runs as India were bowled out for 283 runs, with Australia taking a lead of 43 runs in the first innings. However, Kohli couldn’t take his team down the line despite scoring a ton.
In the second innings, Australia were bowled out for 243 runs giving India a target of 287 runs to win the match. Usman Khawaja top scored with 72(113) runs, while Mohammed Shami shone with figures of 6/56. However, chasing a winning target, the Indian batting lineup failed completely as the visitors were bowled out for 140 runs, as Australia won the match by 146 runs. Australia went on to win their first four matches at Perth Stadium consecutively. However, there streak was broken against India in 2024.
