Indian archers got into action in the capital city of France on July 25, before the official commencement of the Paris Olympics 2024. The qualification ranking round for individuals and teams among men and women took place on Thursday, as the Indian women’s team put on an impressive performance. Indian archers finished fourth in the standings, behind Korea, China and Mexico and qualified directly for the quarters.
If they go through, they will face a tough battle against South Korea in the semifinal clash. Deepika Kumari, Bhajan Kaur and Ankita Bhakat appeared in the qualification round at the individual level. Their performances were accumulated for the team’s rankings and points as well. Kumari, participating in her fourth Olympics, ended in 23rd place with 658 points while Ankita scored 666 points to finish in 11th spot. On the other hand, Bhajan Kaur finished just above Kumari with 659 points.
Talking about South Korea, LIM Sihyeon created a world record in the individual ranking round and ended with a score of 694 points by the end of 12 rounds. In the team rankings, South Korea finished atop the standings with 2046 points ahead of China, who scored 1966 points. Mexico finished three points ahead of India with 1986 points.
In the quarterfinals on July 28, India will be up against either France or Netherlands.
