India’s rising batting superstar Yashasvi Jaiswal came up with his maiden Test hundred in Australia on Day 3 of the first Test. The first Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, kicked off on Friday, November 22, is currently underway at the Optus Stadium in Perth. The third day of the game saw India coming up with two powerful centuries to put hosts under pressure and gain a command . 

India started off poorly and after getting bundled out on 150, the visitors started to get a hold of the game. The Jasprit Bumrah-led side reduced the rivals to only 104 runs before beginning their second innings. The match had already started to change the pace just when Indian batters, including Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli came up with brilliant centuries. They were accompanied by KL Rahul’s solid 77 off 176 combined with five boundaries. 

Yashasvi Jaiswal registers maiden century in Australia, Virat Kohli surpasses Sachin Tendulkar’s record

Yashasvi Jaiswal, India's rising batting star, recorded his maiden Test hundred in Australia. He took a total of 205 deliveries to bring up the century and combined it with a total of eight fours and three sixes. Notably, Jaiswal was dismissed for an eight-ball duck in the first innings and joined forces with KL Rahul to solidify India’s position in the game. Later, he was accompanied by talismanic batter Virat Kohli, who ended his century drought and pulled off his 81st international ton. 

This was Kohli’s 30th Test century and he surpassed Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar to record most Test 100s by an Indian batter Down Under. Sachin had scored six Test hundred in Australia while playing for India. As Kohli hit his first Test hundred in 491 days, he surpassed Tendulkar and now has seven Test centuries to his name in 14 matches.
