The IPL 2025 mega auction, held in Jeddah witnessed some renowned overseas players get under the hammer but did not getting buyers. These players are considered illustrious figures in international cricket due to their years of diligence and perseverance for their respective national sides. However, franchises sidelined their stature and opted to ignore them at the business event held in Jeddah. These distinguished figures won’t lose hope of breaking into the upcoming T20 competition as replacements as they have the potential to scintillate the tournament with their extraordinary cricketing prowess. Discussing more, here are five foreign players who might come in as replacements in the upcoming tournament.
5. Jonny Bairstow
Jonny Bairstow didn’t get a buyer in the IPL 2025 auction despite putting up fine performances with his bat in IPL 2024. England stalwart’s inconsistency cost him in the auction held in Jeddah. Bairstow will be hopeful of entering the competition midway as he has the capability to play attacking cricket and deliver match-winning moments to the teams as he did for Punjab Kings (PBKS) against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the iconic Eden Gardens in 2024.
4. Adil Rashid
Adil Rashid, who served Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the past, couldn’t get any buyer. However, many franchises might show interest in the England veteran noting his decent form and vast experience.
3. Steven Smith
Steven Smith looked exceptional with his bat in the Big Bash League 2024-25. Appearing for Sydney Sixers, he hit 173 runs in two innings of three matches at a notable strike rate of 173.00. Smith has played a lot of cricket in IPL and his experience might attract teams in the upcoming IPL 2025 if any side confronts injury issues.
2. Matt Henry
New Zealand pacer Matt Henry has looked in fine touch with the ball in the Champions Trophy 2025 after going unsold in IPL 2025 auction. The pacer has picked up eight wickets for his national side in three matches at an economy of 5.09. His fine bowling show in the ICC tournament can get him entry in the upcoming T20 extravaganza, set to be played from March 22.
1. David Warner
Former Australia opener David Warner did a magnificent job with his bat in BBL 2024-25. Playing for Sydney Thunders, he notched up 405 runs in 12 games at a strike rate of 141.60. Warner, who guided Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to their maiden title win in 2016, got unsold in IPL 2025 auction. In case of emergency during the tournament, franchises might rope in Warner as his addition to any IPL team will add colossal experience.
