Priyanka Goswami won India’s 27th medal of the Commonwealth Games 2022 as she bagged an elusive silver in the women's 10,000m race walk on Saturday. Priyanka clocked up her personal best record as she completed the marathon in 49 minutes and 38 seconds. Goswami joins Murali Sreeshankar (silver medal in long jump) and Tejaswin Shankar (bronze medal in high jump) as India's third medallist in track and field at CWG 2022.

The 26-year-old was born on 10 March 1996 in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. She comes from a poor family where her father Madanpal Goswami, was a bus conductor in Meerut and hence sports wasn’t the first choice of career in her part of the world. Goswami started off with gymnastics at school but after a few months before switching to athletics.

She then picked race walking as her sport of choice in the event at a district-level championship because only three other girls were participating in the event. Goswami worked hard and made her senior debut at the 2015 National Games in Kerala and won another bronze on debut. Since then she has won two national championships in 2017 and 2021. Goswami also qualified for last year's Olympics but ended with a 17th-place finish.
