Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain are looking to bring back Adrien Rabiot to Paris in a straight swap for Georginio Wijnaldum this summer. With Wijnaldum not bringing the desired results, a big reshuffling of the squad is on the cards at the Parc des Princes this summer. In the same light, Rabiot can be re-signed from Juventus.
As per a report from CalcioMercatoWeb (via HITC), the Ligue 1 champions are looking to bring in a midfielder as Leandro Paredes and Idrissa Gueye are both likely to leave the club before the end of the window. Rabiot, having played for the Parisians already, seems like a perfect fit. The Frenchman appeared in 227 games for PSG and won six Ligue 1 titles before moving to Juventus in 2019.
A move to Italy has not changed things for Rabiot who has made 129 appearances for the Serie A side. On the other hand, Georginio Wijnaldum, who had a silverware-laden spell at Liverpool, failed to live up to his potential in his debut season in France. The Dutch international only took part in 38 games across competitions, recording three goals and as many assists. Thus, PSG are looking to replace him with a more trusted Rabiot.
Liverpool stand in PSG’s way
With reports claiming that Adrien Rabiot, who is into his last year of contract with Juventus, is keen on moving out of Turin, Premier League club Liverpool have shown interest in roping in the French national. Jurgen Klopp’s team eyes to form a formidable lineup with all bases covered. Having tied Mohamad Sala down to a long-term contract, the Reds have secured their attack for the foreseeable future.
They also have an unbreachable defense capable of handling any kind of attack. However, Thiago, Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, and Naby Keita need someone like Rabiot to support them (who can effectively drive the ball forward). The Frenchman happens to be a natural at the job (77.2 percent dribble accuracy last season). Therefore, Liverpool will try everything in their capacity to challenge PSG in getting Rabiot.
