On Wednesday, April 2, Gujarat Titans defeated the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by a convincing margin of eight wickets in the 14th match of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. With this, the Shubman Gill-led side not only handed the Bengaluru-based franchise their first defeat of the season, but also registered their second biggest win while chasing in their tournament history.

For the unversed, Shubman Gill, the captain of GT won the toss and decided to field first. Putting the hosts to post the score in their first home game of this edition, the RCB lost star batter Virat Kohli early, who departed after scoring just seven off six deliveries. Soon after his dismissal, new batter in Devdutt Padikkal also could not stay for long with Mohammed Siraj cleaning him up.

Phil Salt, who is known for his explosive hitting also could not last long in the middle as Siraj once again did his part, cleaning up the in-form batter. While the RCB batters struggled to stitch a crucial partnership, Liam Livingstone added crucial 54 runs off 40 deliveries along wit stitching a decent partnership with Jitesh Sharma. Eventually, the GT bowlers restricted the hosts at 169/8 in the 20 overs with Mohammed Siraj being the pick with the ball for the day.

In pursuit of the 170-run target, GT never looked out of touch as Sai Sudharsan once again played a fiery inning of 36-ball 49 at the top of the order. However, Shubman Gill was dismissed cheaply, after scoring run a ball 14, England batter Jos Buttler proved to be lethal with the bat. The England veteran played a 39-ball 73*, with his innings being laced with five fours and six maximums. He was well supported by SHerfane Rutherford, who hitting the winning runs to help the Gujarat Titans finish on the other side of the line.

With this win, GT continued to retain their fourth place in the points table, whereas RCB, dropped down to third place with Punjab Kings replacing them at the helm.
