In the 71st minute of the Premier League match at Old Trafford, Lisandro Martinez was involved in a collision with Vladimir Coufal. He went down on the floor holding his right knee and seemed in pain before the Manchester United manager replaced him with Raphael Varane.
Rio Ferdinand spoke about the unfortunate injury to Lisandro Martinez on his FIVE podcast, and said, as per News18, “Martinez got a little injury. He has done his knee. I see he tweaked it. I think that looks like ligaments, man. He tried to carry on and then said, ‘No, no, no I’ve got to go’. So, listen, if he’s out, it kills it.”
He also spoke about the great partnership between Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw, which allows Manchester United to build attacks from the back four with great regularity. “You can see with him and Luke Shaw on that side when they’re together, they look so dominant, they look so confident, they look so composed with the ball," the 45-year-old remarked.
Manchester United released a statement, confirming the injury of their star defender, which read, “Lisandro Martinez has sustained an injury to the medial collateral ligament in his knee and is expected to be out of action for at least eight weeks.”
