India’s ace tennis player Rohan Bopanna and his Australian men’s doubles partner Matthew Ebden have decided to part ways after their win in the final group match at the ATP Finals in Turin. The duo who reached the world number on ranking during their two season long stint, recently announced that they would separate ways.
The duo paired up in January 2023 and lifted three trophies. While they bagged the Australian Open men’s doubles title, they also clinched the ATP Masters 1000 title at Indian Wells 2023 and Miami Open 2024. They also won the Qatar Open last year and reached the final of the US Open in 2023, along with hitting the top of doubles rankings this year.
One win here at ATP Finals was fitting or deserving: Matthew Ebden
Australian tennis player Matthew Ebden opened up on the partnership as he was quoted as saying to Olympics.com, “Obviously, we were already out but to at least get one final win together, it was a great way to finish the partnership and it’s been amazing two years.” “To finish on a win and at least get one win here at the ATP Finals, I think was fitting or deserving maybe. It was really nice to share one more big moment,” he further added.
The 36-year-old, who secured the Paris Olympic gold medal with John Peers further went on to shower praise on Bopanna for his commitment and dedication. “I have to thank him (Bopanna) for his amazing effort and commitment and dedication at 44 years old. It’s been a great effort. I wish him all the best for the future,” Ebden concluded.
However, the duo are yet to announce their partners for the next season as Rohan Bopanna recently squashed rumours of reuniting with his former Crotian partner Ivan Dodig. After rumours of Bopanna reuniting with Ivan Dodig surfaced, the 44-year-old took to social media to confirm that the news is false and was “never set to play with Dodig”. “I kindly request you to ensure accuracy and avoid sharing false information with a global audience, specifically about Ivan Dodig being my partner. I was never set to play with Dodig next year. Thank you,” Bopanna wrote in one of his Instagram stories.
