The latest episode of WWE SmackDown from Vancouver, Canada, billed as the “New Year’s Revolution,” was mainly built around the main event, a triple threat match among AJ Styles, LA Knight, and Randy Orton. The SmackDown GM Nick Aldis had put together this high-stakes encounter to determine the new number-one contender for Roman Reigns’ Undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
But, the hard-fought triple threat match between three of the top superstars from SmackDown didn’t get a finish because the champion Roman Reigns and the rest of the Bloodline made their way to the ring to attack them mercilessly. AJ Styles, LA Knight, and Randy Orton were beaten, battered, and bruised, but the night didn’t end all that badly for them.
Nick Aldis, who wasn’t too pleased with how the main event of WWE Smackdown unfolded, pulled Paul Heyman of the Bloodline to the side to congratulate him before telling him that Roman Reigns is in a fatal four-way championship match at the Royal Rumble. This will be just the third title defense since Wrestlemania 39, which happened last April, for the longest-reigning world champion in the modern era of the WWE.
In other major matches on SmackDown, the WWE Women’s Champion, Iyo Sky, successfully defended her title against Michin. Meanwhile, Kevin Owens got the better of Santos Escobar to earn himself a WWE United States Championship match against Logan Paul at the Royal Rumble.
