Former Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has reportedly decided to make a career switch and is in talks with KSI-owned Misfits Boxing for one of their forthcoming fights. After a successful football career with Manchester United from 2004 to 2017, Rooney went on to pursue several coaching jobs with Birmingham City in the Championship League. During his stint with United, he became the all-time leader scored in club history and established himself as one of the greatest names to have played the game.
Earlier this year, Rooney was fired from Birmingham City after just 15 games and 83 days of the charge and decided to take a break from football to consider what he wanted from his career. As per the latest reports by Mirror, Rooney has been in touch with KSI about facing him since December 2022. Since Misfits doesn’t function under the British Boxing Board of Control, Rooney won’t compete in professional boxing.
Boxing reporter Michael Benson reposted the reports by Mirror, which stated, “Wayne Rooney is reportedly in early talks with Misfits Boxing as he is contemplating having a one-off fight. [According to @MirrorSport]” Notably, the 31-year-old former footballer engaged in a friendly boxing match with former teammate Phil Bardsley that took place at the former’s house.
Talking about Misfits Boxing, social media sensation-turned-boxer KSI launched the company in 2022, and ever since its introduction, the company has had several social media sensations. Names like Logan Paul, Jay Swingler, Ashley, and Myles have competed in matches from the platform.
