Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner, Sanjiv Goenka finally broke silence on their skipper for the upcoming edition. However, he did not reveal the name of the player who is set to captain the side, but confirmed that the announcement will be coming out in few days time.
In IPL 2024, Indian wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul led the side, but was released from the group ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. Although, the franchise did not rope him at the two-day auction in Jeddah and rather went onto sign star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant for a record breaking price of INR 27 Crore, making him the most expensive player in IPL auction’s history.
Who will lead LSG in IPL 2025?
Speaking on former India cricketer Aakash Chopra’s YouTube channel, Sanjiv Goenka hinted at four possible names who could captain the side in the upcoming edition. However, he did not reveal that one name, but hinted that it could be from the quartet of Pant, Aiden Markram, Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran.
“People get surprised easily. I don’t think you get surprised easily. It’s been decided. But we will announce in the next few days. We have four leaders in our team - Rishabh, Pooran, Markram, and Mitch Marsh,” Sanjiv Goenka said. “So, it becomes a very strong leadership pool of intellect, though and strategy. They are all people who can go for the mindset to win. Rishabh has that hunger, and passion that he wants to win, and do something and show it. So, the team is good and we are happy,” he added.
