The Seattle Seahawks' rebuild season after the Russell Wilson era has hit another roadblock as Running Back Rashaad Penny will be missing the rest of the 2022-23 NFL season. Penny suffered a broken fibula which ended his season. Along with this horrific injury,  the running back has also injured his tibia.

The news was confirmed by Seattle head coach Pete Carroll, who made the announcement via 710 AM Seattle Sports radio. Carroll stated that Penny will require a lot of time to get back to full fitness as he will undergo special surgery which will tighten the injured fibula and tibia bones.

Carroll said, “It's going to be a haul for him. This is what they refer to as a tib/fib incident. He broke his fibula and cracked that, but it's the high-ankle sprain element of it that makes it difficult. And there's a particular surgery that they do to connect and tighten down those bones,"

"It's going to take a number of months, so he's going to miss the season. It's really a heartbreaker for a kid that has really bounced back into the limelight of our program and for us and all, and for himself. He's been through such a long haul that it's really just a heartbreaking loss for him.”

As per reported by Ian Rapoport, Penny will undergo tight-rope surgery on Tuesday morning which will add a plate to his fibula and stabilize the ankle. The Seahawks Running Back is set to face a four-month recovery and is slated to be healthy by the start of the 2023 league year.

This high-ankle injury will be the latest addition to the former first-round pick's list of setbacks. Due to his long history with injuries, Penny has never played a full season in five years with Seattle. The 2022-23 season has been difficult for the Seahawks as they are sitting at the bottom of the NFC West with a 2-3 record. Their latest fixture resulted in a close 39-32 loss against the New Orleans Saints.
