UEFA has taken disciplinary action against several Real Madrid players, including Antonio Rudiger and Kylian Mbappe, following their controversial celebrations after the Champions League Round of 16 victory over Atletico Madrid on March 12, 2025. The governing body launched an investigation into the incident, citing "indecent conduct" during the post-match celebrations. Antonio Rudiger came under scrutiny for a throat-slitting gesture directed toward the crowd, while Mbappe, Dani Ceballos, and Vinicius Junior were also involved in scenes deemed unsportsmanlike. Following the probe, UEFA fined Rudiger 40,000 euros and handed him a one-match suspension, which is suspended for a year; meaning he will only serve it if another offense occurs during that period.

Mbappe received a 30,000 euro fine and a similarly suspended one-match ban, while Ceballos was fined 20,000 euro without a match suspension. However, Vinicius Junior was cleared of any wrongdoing. This ruling means that all players, including Rudiger and Mbappe, are eligible to play in Real Madrid’s crucial Champions League quarter-final first leg against Arsenal on April 8, 2025.
