As Virat Kohli brought up a fabulous hundred against the West Indies on Friday, the age-old question of “Will Virat break the record of Sachin Tendulkar’s 100 hundreds?” has risen once again. The former skipper played a brilliant, composed knock and brought up his first overseas Test century after a gap of almost five years. Losing the toss, India were asked to bat first and the Men in Blue put up a score of 438, out of which Virat top scored for the side with a score of 121.
India’s former batter and gun fielder Mohammad Kaif during an event at IISM was asked by, if he believed that Virat would score 100 centuries. The former cricketer humourously responded, stating, “He will make hundred hundreds, but he won’t beat Sachin’s Test record of 51 centuries.”
He further added, “He will be behind Sachin in Tests, but will make a total 100 hundreds. He is still fit, back in form and hitting runs. You know he is around 34-year-old and will play for at least 5-6 years more, so he will score 100 hundreds, but won’t be able to beat Sachin in Tests.”
Virat is currently playing the two-match Test series against West Indies and will feature in the three-match ODI series after the conclusion of the Test series. The batting stalwart still needs 25 centuries to breach the hundred century mark.
Talking about Mohammad Kaif, the former all-rounder is recognized as one of the best fielders produced by India. He was also a stunning batsman who averaged 32, at a strike rate of 72 in ODIs. He represented India in 125 ODIs and 13 Tests. He is best known for his knock of 87* in the famous 2002 Natwest Series Final at Lord’s. He also served as the assistant coach for the Delhi Capitals in 2019 and 2020.
