On Sunday, September 22, South Africa registered a seven-wicket win in the third and final ODI of the three-match series at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, however, they lost the three-match series by 1-2 margin against Afghanistan. During the third ODI in Sharjah, Afghanistan batter, Rahmat Shah was dismissed in a bizarre manner by South African pacer, Lungi Ngidi after they opted to bat first.

Rahmat Shah gets out in bizarre manner in third ODI vs SA

Shah, who came out to bat after Abdul Malik was dismissed lbw by Lungi Ngidi early in the innings, also departed after having scored just one run off six deliveries. In a rare kind of run-out dismissal, Shah had to depart after a deflection in the ball, which dislodged the stumps on the non-striker’s end.

The incident unfolded on the fifth delivery of the ninth over. Ngidi bowled a full length delivery to Afghanistan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz. The opener knocked it back towards the bowler and the latter stuck his right hand out on his follow-through as Rahmat Shah was backing up. Although Ngidi managed to get his fingertips on the ball as it was deflected towards the batter at non-striker’s end, it hit the stumps afterwards.

Although Shah did not have a lot of time to react as he was turning his back when the ball hit him and just in the moment, he found himself short of the crease when the bails came off, costing him his wicket in a bizarre manner. Meanwhile, a similar dismissal took place in 2006 involving Andrew Symonds and Michael Clarke.

Afghanistan win three-match ODI series against South Africa by 2-1 margin

After taking an unassailable lead in the three-match ODI series by 2-0 margin, the Hashmatullah Shahidi-led side failed to carry their momentum in the third and final match of the series, which was played at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah. The Afghans, who won the toss and elected to bat first, were dismissed at the score of 169 in just 34 overs, courtesy two wickets each from Lungi Ngidi (2/22), Nqaba Peter (2/22) and Phehlukwayo (2/17). The Temba Bavuma-led side did not had to sweat much as they comfortable chased the total in 33 overs to get a consolation win in the series, courtesy an unbeaten 69-run knock from Aiden Markram.
