On September 18, Monday, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo arrived in Iran to take part in his first match of the AFC Champions League 2023-24 for the Saudi club Al-Nassr against Persepolis. Upon his first visit to the country, the fans of the Portuguese footballer, who were gathered on the streets of Tehran to catch a glimpse of him, performed the “Siuuu” celebration in anticipation of what they were about to witness next.

Notably, Al-Nassr is drawn in Group E of the AFC Champions League 2023-24 with the Iranian club Persepolis, the Qatari club Al-Duhail, and the Tajikistani club FC Istiklol. The best finish for the Saudi club in this football tournament came in 1995, when they were runners-up against the South Korean club Seongnam FC, then known as Ilhwa Chunma Football Club, losing the final by 1-0 at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh.

In the viral video posted on Twitter, the Iranian fans chanted the name “Ronaldo” continuously, after they performed the “Siuuu,” celebration multiple times. Such was the euphoria for the footballing superstar that they kept going with the iconic celebration as the clip moved forward.

Sometime later, the team bus of Al-Nassr, with Cristiano Ronaldo in tow, went past the street of Tehran, where the fans were gathered in numbers. The 36-year-old gave a thumbs up to the fans for the great welcome he received from them, making their effort worthwhile in the process.

Moreover, the AFC Champions League 2023-24 campaign opener for Al-Nassr will happen on September 19, Tuesday, against Persepolis at the Azaadi Stadium in Tehran. These two clubs have played against each other twice in their footballing history, with both sharing two wins each.
