Harbhajan Singh, the former Indian cricketer, appeared to have made a sexist remark about the Bollywood actresses Anushka Sharma and Athiya Shetty in Hindi commentary, during the final of the ODI World Cup 2023. The moment happened when the camera panned towards the famous personalities from the world of entertainment while they were watching India bat against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

For the unversed, the Indian cricket team posted a below-par total of 240 all out in their allotted 50 overs after the Australian captain Pat Cummins put them in to bat first on the night of the final. KL Rahul top scorer for India with 66 off 107, while Mitchell Starc picked up three wickets for 55 runs in his 10-over spell for Australia.
The video of Harbhajan Singh’s commentary stint during the CWC 2023 final has gone viral on social media platform X, in which he was quoted as saying about Anushka Sharma and Athiya Shetty, “Aur yeh main soch raha tha ki baat cricket ki ho rahi hai ya filmon ki. Kyunki cricket ke barein mein toh janta nahi kitni samajh hogi (And I was thinking whether the conversation is occurring about cricket or films. Because I am not sure about their understanding of cricket).”

Just as the video gathered pace on X, many of the cricket fans didn’t take too kindly to the comments from the former ODI World Cup winner from India. Notably, Anushka Sharma and Athiya Shetty are attending the CWC 2023 final, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, to support their respective spouses, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul.
