Lionel Messi has stamped his authority after just two games at the MLS side Inter Miami after an extra-time match-winning freekick in his first game and a brace and an assist against Atlanta United in their second Leagues Cup game. After scoring one of his two goals Messi changed his normal celebration to something new which was dedicated to his sons Thiago, Mateo, and Ciro.

After scoring and celebrating with his teammates the former PSG man celebrated with a hand held out like Thor when he calls his beloved hammer. Messi did this celebration while looking at his family and clearly dedicated it to them. Generally, Messi points his hands towards the sky and has earlier said in an interview that it is dedicated to his grandmother who encouraged the little boy from Rosario to pursue football.

However, many believed that the celebration was aimed at David Beckham and it refers to 'hold my beer'.

Inter Miami qualify for the round of 16 at Leagues Cup 2023

Miami completed a comfortable 4-0 win over Atlanta United at the DRV PNK Stadium in their second group-stage game of the Leagues Cup. New captain Lionel Messi and Robert Taylor scored braces to guide the struggling side to the round of 16.

Sergio Busquets and Lionel Messi combined and jogged our memories of how good their duo was when they played at Barcelona as Busquets again gave a beautiful overhead pass for Messi to open the scoring. Robert Taylor and Messi combined for the second goal in the 22nd minute as Taylor’s cutback was tapped in by Messi. Taylor jumped on the action as he made it three with an amazing volley from an acute angle.

Messi returned Taylor’s favor for the fourth as he assisted Taylor for his second and this win puts Miami comfortably on top of Group J in the Leagues Cup. They will return to the MLS for their next game as they face Charlotte on August 21 at the DRV PNK Stadium.
