On Tuesday, October 1, New Zealand batter, Martin Guptill wreaked havoc with his prolific batting during the Legends League Cricket (LLC) 2024. Guptill, who is plying his trade for the Southern Super Stars in LLC, left no stone unturned as he smashed the Manipal Tigers bowlers all around the park at the Lalabhai Contractor Stadium in Surat.

In one such instance, the Kiwi batter, who hasn’t dropped a beat even after his retirement, smashed Dan Christian for a massive six, which eventually broke the glass window of the commentary box. During his stay for 29 deliveries, Guptill scored 68 runs, which included eight fours and four maximums at a strike rate of 234.48.

The 38-year-old, who was batting at 38 off 22 deliveries at the start of the ninth over, smashed Dan Christian, the right-arm fast medium bowler for four maximums. While he smashed first ball of the over above the mid-wicket, followed by one each over fine leg and deep mid-wicket. On the fourth delivery, he took the ball over long-on region, which hit the commentary box and broke the glass window.

The final six of the over left the commentators stunned as one of them can be heard saying “take cover”. Apart from them, Manipal Tigers skipper, Harbhajan Singh also couldn’t take the sight off the ball.

Speaking of the match number 11 of LLC 2024, Harbhajan Singh-led Manipal Tigers won the toss and invited the Southern Super Stars to bat first. On the back of a quickfire 68 off 29 from Martin Guptill, the side posted 194/7 in their 15 overs. While Harbhajan Singh led from the front as he took three wickets, Anureet Singh, Pienaar, Rahul Shukla and A Perera got a wicket each.

In pursuit of the 195-run target, none of the Manipal Tigers batters got going as the side was bundled out at the score of 152 in just 13.1 overs. For the Super Stars, Hamid Hassan scalped three wickets, Abdur Razzak, Monu Kumar and Jesal Karia took two wickets each while Pawan Negi got one to his name. Having a clean sheet so far, the Southern Super Stars comfortably sit at the top of the points table with four wins in as many matches. They will next take on Konark Suryas Odisha at the Lalabhai Contractor Stadium in Surat on Wednesday, October 2 at 7:00 pm IST.
