The Spanish women’s football team lifted their maiden FIFA Women’s World Cup title on Sunday, August 20. Spanish captain Olga Carmona’s lone strike decided the course of the game as La Roja beat the Lionesses 1-0, recreating Spain’s 2010 men’s World Cup win.
However, the action did not stop here as the Spanish FA President was captured kissing Jennifer Hermoso on the lips during the World Cup final trophy celebrations. While the video of the same has been doing rounds on social media, it has even sparked controversy as the player also reacted on this gesture by the Spanish FA President.

Notably, Forward Hermoso, who has been Spain’s all-time record scorer, started against England in the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 Final on Sunday, but missed a chance to score as her penalty was saved by Mary Earps.
I didn’t like it: Hermoso
The Spanish forward who then was live in an Instagram session after the side’s 1-0 win over England, explained that she “didn’t like it”. However, she further clarified that the gesture by the Spanish FA President Lius Rubiales was an expression of pure affection.
“It was a totally spontaneous mutual gesture because of the immense joy that winning a World Cup brings,” Hermoso clarified in comments.
