After his snub from the Indian cricket team, leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal made his County Championship stint with Kent last week. While the 33-year-old was seen in an impressive form, one thing that fans were quick to notice about him was his new jersey number. The reliable spinner who has played a key role in many India matches, was seen donning a new number ‘27’ for the County matches. The Rajasthan Royals player finally revealed the special reason behind opting for the new jersey number.
The jersey number of the Haryana-born cricketer is 3; however, he was seen wearing jersey number 27 for his County Championship stint. Opening up on the reason behind changing the number, Chahal said that since number 3 wasn’t available in the league, he opted for this number for a special reason.
The former Royal Challengers Bangalore cricketer said, “Number 3 wasn’t available, so my obvious choice was 27: my wife’s birthdate.” Notably, Yuzvendra Chahal’s wife and famous Indian choreographer Dhanashree Verma’s birthdate is September 27.
Speaking of the cricketer’s County stint, Chahal made an impressive debut in the championship, where he took three wickets in the first match for his side, Kent, against Nottinghamshire in a Division One match on Tuesday, September 12. The Indian cricketer recorded figures of 29-10-63-3 in the game.
