Virat Kohli's return to Chinnaswamy Stadium to play a Test match in front of the Bengaluru crowd did not really go according to plan. The former Indian captain is extremely loved in the city, having been a part of Royal Challengers Bangalore since the inception of the Indian Premier League (IPL). As expected, the 33-year-old got an outstanding reception from fans throughout the course of the match, no matter if he was batting or fielding.
Unfortunately for him, luck was not on side of Kohli. In the first innings, he got a good start but a delivery from Dhananjaya de Silva kept so low that he was trapped in front of the wicket. He made a long way back to the pavilion at a score of 23 (off 48) with a look of disbelief on his face. Well, an exact sequence of events unfolded on Day 2 in the second innings as well.
Kohli had an unlucky outing in Bengaluru
Once again, Kohli got a good start but this time it was Parveen Jayawickrama whose one of the deliveries kept so low that the right-handed batsman was adjudged LBW on 13 (off 16), giving him and everyone a 'deja vu'.
Just when everyone thought that Kohli might give an angry reaction, fans were left in surprise as the 33-year-old gave a wry smile which was probably a perfect reflection of him expressing his feeling that he could not have done anything about that delivery.
Getting out in that manner once is unfortunate but getting out in that manner twice is heartbreaking. Well, that was probably what Kohli's reaction suggested. However, Rishabh Pant's quick fifty guided India to a strong position at lunch break of Day 2, with score reading 199/5 i.e. leading Sri Lanka by 342 runs.
